The coronation of the Ice Queen will take place at her court. In her honour the god's stage an aurora borealis, one of nature's most spectacular phenomena. The court will be decorated with the wonders of her kingdom and her courtiers will wear their finery.

'Chinese New Year'

| Event Proposal: |
The year of the Dragon starts on 5 February 2000 and to celebrate, the Manchester Ship canal will be strung with anterns made by the local children - one lantern per child. A group of the children will lead the celebrations by processing along the banks of the Ship Canal. The procession will be of lion dancers. The dragon will then rise from the canal to view the celebrations held in its honour.

| Community Activity: |
Every child in the local primary schools will make a Chinese lantern that will then be hung on cables across the canal (packs will be sent to teachers) One or two local school groups will learn the techniques of lion dancing and develop a professional march based on the steps. Costumes will be made for the lion dancers and other members of the procession to reflect the Year of the Dragon.

A pageant using ultra violet light to illuminate the costumes of the participants as they celebrate the life of the river. The finale will be centred on a light show based on the lights nature produces.

An estuary regatta including, races for different types of craft (motor, sail, canoe, nobby boat, jet ski, etc) and a torch relay with teams made up of different types of crafts. A competition for the most original steam powered machine in the 'Heath Robinson' tradition. The end of the race party will feature a light show.

A fashion parade of light costumes will be held at the marina. The catwalk will be formed by pontoons across the water. The light show will 're-light' the lighthouse and invoke the past of New Brighton illuminating gunfire from Fort Perch Rock and the fires from the wreckers.

Light sculptures will be designed and fabricated and then floated down the river, where they can be viewed from above on the bridges. The procession will emerge from behind a curtain of light hung from one of the bridges. The light sculptures will be congregated at a designated point where they will be the centrepiece for a spectacular light show.

The celebration of Birkenhead's ship and submarine building heritage with its lights just beneath and on the surface of the river. Atlantic crossing and conveys will be remembered through sequences of lights leaving the docks and disappearing towards the sea. Roman candles, flares and candles will be used as a finale and links made with communities celebrating Chanukkah.
