The River of light will link the diverse communities on the banks of the River Mersey and ship canal from its source to it's estuary taking in Manchester and Liverpool. It will commermorate our shared industrial heritage by encouraging the creative illumination of significant structures and landmarks. The River of Light will look to the future - helping to light the Mersey basin for the millenium and beyond. The River of Light will offer a permanent legacy for the region - a tourist magnet, and a mechanism for economic regeneration. |

The combination of the illuminated landmarks and lighting spectaculars will create a tourist attraction of national and international significance. With the appropriate marketing the long term economic impact will be significant: creating jobs, attracting inward investment, boosting the local economies of the Mersey Basin, creating a sustainable legacy in the hearts and minds of young people. | ![]() |

Lighting Landmarks: key landmark features will be identified; and painted with light, to enhance and enliven them. Light Spectaculars: Light shows will be staged using the latest technological advances in waterscreens and image projection. Projection material by local community children and artists. A light barge will travel to sites wherever possible, housing lighting and projection equipment, and will be the centre piece of the show. |
